Hey Jeff, welcome back to Council! Hows about writing this month's Council Corner?
Well OK, so maybe it just seemed that way to me, but here I am writing out a Council Corner.
I thought i would take a different tactic from what I do at work and write about something I know about. Let me take this opportunity to introduce Redeemer 2.0, the newly redesigned church Web Site. Still located at http://www.redeemerjamison.org, i am in the process of adding a ton of new features. Before I tell you about futures (maybe I'll hold on to that for the next those guys corner me), let me tell you about what you'll find there if you were to visit the site this moment. On the home page, you'll see a link to something called eRedeemer. That is just my computer nerd name for a new service we are creating that will be used to contact the whole of the congregation with important news, schedule changes, an electronic color version of the newsletter, and just about anything else we can think of. You should have received an invitation to join the eRedeemer group in your church mail box. The sooner you get signed up, the sooner you too will be in the know! (and the sooner Redeemer can start saving on the cost of mailing out those newsletters to all our families!)
Another group of features you will find today are our vast assortment of Blogs. Blog is just a shortening of the words weB LOG, and it really is nothing more than an entity where people can post information that they feel is important or useful to the people that read their postings. Think of it like the features written by Newspaper Columnists. At time of writing we have several Blogs in use. Pastor Montgomery has two Blogs: one where she delivers her thoughts, feelings and ideas to the congregation ( and well, heck, the world!) and another where you can find the text of all her sermons. Both of Pastor's Blogs can be found under the Communications tab on the site menu. As you sit reading this message in the newsletter, you could also be reading it online in the Council Corner blog (HEY, wait a minute...you ARE reading it online!). There is also a Social Ministry News Blog, with up-to-date postings of the goings-on in that committee. The Council and Social ministry Blogs can be found under the communications tab. And, coming soon, each committee will have access to a blog where they can post information to help keep us all better informed! There is also a Blog called What's New at Redeemer that is used to publish, well, what's new at Redeemer. You'll find this Blog under the Events menu tab along with a calendar of events hosted through Google Calendars. There are a lot of other great thing that can be done with Blogs, but that's for another Council Corner or perhaps a full-fledged training session.
One last quick note, if you look under the Groups tab, you'll find a link to the Redeemer Book Club. Join the group and get in on the fun of the conversations we've been having. There is also a group to join to receive the Midweek Devotional and offer your thoughts up to the whole group(you'll find this under the Communications tab)!
Well, I guess that's about all for this edition of the Council Corner. See you the next time I get backed into a corner!
